England, who have not won the World Cup for four decades, were fortunate to emerge with a 1-0 win in Frankfurt, relying on an early own goal by Paraguay captain Carlos Gamarra.

報(bào)道中的own goal就是足球術(shù)語“烏龍球”，即“球員誤把球踢入本方的球門內(nèi)”。從語言學(xué)的角度說，英語“own goal”（自進(jìn)本方球門的球）與粵語的“烏龍”一詞發(fā)音相近，而粵語的“烏龍”有“搞錯(cuò)”等意思。大約在上個(gè)世紀(jì)六、七十年代，own goal（烏龍球）由香港記者翻譯而來。

也有說法認(rèn)為，“烏龍”源于廣東的一個(gè)民間傳說：久旱之時(shí)，人們祈求青龍降下甘露，以滋潤(rùn)萬物，誰知，青龍未至，烏龍現(xiàn)身，反而給人們帶來了災(zāi)難。后來，“烏龍”引用到足球賽場(chǎng)上，指本方球員誤打誤撞，將球弄入自家大門，不僅不得分，反而失分。舉個(gè)例子：

Tom headed the ball into his own goal.（湯姆把球頂進(jìn)了自己的球門。）
